Is AI taking over?

Is AI taking over? Well firstly, as a definition, Artificial Intelligence (AI) as we know this today can be viewed as a function that focuses on creating systems capable of performing tasks that would  usually require human input or intelligence. So with consideration for AI and Human Behaviour, it seems there are many layers to this technology and the one that does generate a lot of interest and concern is the side that mimics human behaviour.

Well, is it or not?

When AI displays capability like learning, reasoning, task completion, problem-solving, understanding multiple languages, and recognising various patterns we tend to get the most nervous and rightly so. There are endless news cycles, media and social posts from all sorts of people, some who are experts that make broad ranging statements claiming that AI will take over the world within x number of years. All the jobs are going to go because AI is taking over. We’ve all seen these and is it true? In my view, no it is not.

I’m sure this will depend on who you talk to, or more so listen to.

Is there more to this?

Is AI taking over? Well certainly a stream, or sub set of AI is demanding more of our attention that other areas that’s for sure. It is safe to say the component within AI that mimics us and our jobs is a great place to focus your thoughts and concerns for a while rather than just thinking AI in general as a broad stroke and feeding insecurities.

If you would like to consider some other thoughts around more simpler concepts on AI in general, and what is it- you could see our previous article at https://databench.com.au/what-exactly-is-ai/

As written in an article by Bernard Marr from Forbes Magazine, we are still a long way off yet and we should feel relieved. https://www.forbes.com/sites/bernardmarr/2024/05/13/why-ai-wont-take-over-the-world-anytime-soon/
